The Back Story:
First meeting of the season. The Clippers swept the two games last season.
The Big Picture:
The Clippers got a very ugly win in Philadelphia last night, but it looks just fine in the W column. The team could not make a jump shot and they were 2 for 19 on three pointers, but they took care of the ball, they rebounded, they played defense, and they got the win. Hopefully it won't be quite as big a struggle tonight, against the worst team in the league. The Clippers of the past were certainly well known to lose these types of games -- they lost to a Cleveland team on a record breaking losing streak last season after all. Hopefully, the lapse the team experienced on Wednesday against an undermanned Cleveland team was their one mishap this trip, and it will serve to focus them for the Bobcats. It would be nice to get some players dialed back in after tough nights, like Caron Butler and Randy Foye and even Blake Griffin. But first things first -- win the game. Hopefully they won't have to rely on a Chris Paul last second shot tonight. The starters could use a little rest heading into the final stop of the road trip in Dallas, so a blow out would be especially nice.

The Antagonist:
Charlotte this season reminds me of Cleveland last season, so perhaps I should be worried. The Bobcats started off bad. They don't really have enough talent to compete night in and night out. Then, on top of that, they've got key players injured. Corey Maggette just returned last night after missing more than a month. Reggie Williams missed their first 21 games. Leading scorers Gerald Henderson and D.J. Augustin have been out for 5 and 9 games respectively. If you're not very good to begin with, and then some of your better players are injured, you're going to be really, really terrible. And they have been. They lost their 13th straight last night against Chicago by a score of 95-64 -- and Derrick Rose didn't even play. You look at the roster, even the full healthy roster, and you wonder how they can possibly win. I know that small market teams have an extra challenge trying to be profitable, but the first thing you have to do is put together a decent team, and Michael Jordan just hasn't done that in Charlotte.
The Subplots
From the Urban Dictionary:
bobcat
a cougar in training; a girl who is between the ages of 20-30 who is displaying early characteristics of cougarhood.
That bobcat will surely one day become a cougar.

good work steve

I loved Corey Maggette as a Clipper - yeah, I said it!
He was my fav player for many years on our team. Love his athleticism and his ability and when I had my Maggette Glasses on, I managed to ignore his weaknesses. I know MDsr loved the way he basically ignored the defensive sets and rotations!
I’d still love him on our team next year, coming off the bench as a scoring threat.
His value is plummetting due to him being shipped around crap teams but the boy can score and he can get to the line also.
Yep, he’s been injured for most of the season so the .299FG% looks awful but he’s got a career FG% of .456 which is very good for a SF.
I miss you Corey, come home lad. You know Donald still loves you and would have you back in a flash (but not at 10M a season – Donald’s love doesn’t stretch that far!).

-1
I think Corey’s best work these days is just looking good in hotel lobbies on road trips.
MySDClippers - February 11, 2012
no, no, no
The season before last, Maggs shot 20ppg on 51% shooting in 30 mins a game (whilst grabbing 5.3 rebs a game).
Last year shot 45% from the field scoring 12ppg in 20 mins.
I expect him to be up around 15/16ppg again this year now he’s back from injury.

Erik O woke up with a tingling feeling throughout his body this morning
knowing the godly body of Corey Maggette will be playing tonight.

btw, who is Rufus?
and is Michael Jordan the worst owner in the NBA? Yes, i’m saying he’s worse than our man cause we RULE now.
chrisd - February 11, 2012
but i'll give mad props to their website Rufus on Fire, it's well written and they have a lot of dedicated fans.
chrisd - February 11, 2012
I cruised the Rufus site and liked the head writer's style.
PV Mike - February 11, 2012
Rufus is the backup musicians for Chaka Khan in the 70's
PV Mike - February 11, 2012
Nice.
MySDClippers - February 11, 2012
Rufus
Rufus is the name of the Bobcats mascot. It derives from the latin name of the bobcat: Lynx rufus. See, I know stuff.
Steve Perrin - February 11, 2012
This should be a game were DeAndre....
has 20+ and 10. Chris Paul should have a light 24 min night.
Takebb909 - February 11, 2012 via mobile
I would love that
But I’m not going to “set” expectations for this game. A solid game would be nice, but I don’t feel…entitled (I guess is the word?) to say “should”? I dunno.
UC.Clipper - February 11, 2012
With only having 3 wins to their name
Absolutely we should feel entitled to win and win easily.
dulciusXasperis - February 11, 2012
It would be great to have Corey back in the fold...
…if he was a better defender…
saxmanager - February 11, 2012
Poor Corey...
has mailed it in. Just collecting checks.
MySDClippers - February 11, 2012
Do you remember Baron Davis?
ClippersUK - February 11, 2012
let's help the bobcats out with a massive blowout win
The Bobcats need to know how bad they really are and understand no other NBA teams feel sorry for them. As much as I like MJ, he should sell the team or hire a real GM.
dan73962 - February 11, 2012
Give CP3 and Blake the Night Off
nuff said about tonight’s game
Kemba is learning it is a long hard distance from Big East basketball to the NBA but then again maybe last years UConn team could beat this year’s Bobcats team. LOL
Buddahfan - February 11, 2012
The issue I have with this is
unless they are in fact injured, I do no feel it is fair to the Bobcats fans who would be spending money to see Blake and CP3 play. I read the Clips are currently the 2nd biggest road draw in the NBA to date only averaging 3 less fans per game than the Lakers.
PV Mike - February 11, 2012
We should definitely play everyone
but if it is blowout, then CP3 and BG will play 24 minutes instead of 36. Consider that Bobcat tix are probbly very cheap…
LJ Hann - February 11, 2012
Looked it up
cheapest tix for tonights game on the secondary market are $40… that’s higher than in LA.
LJ Hann - February 11, 2012
You Have A Good Point
Lets hear it for us fans. Seriously.
Buddahfan - February 11, 2012
Billups loss means that Foye and Williams have had to step up one level especially Foye. It is one thing to be effective against second stringers and another to be effective against NBA starters.
Stepping up is not always an easy thing to do and a lot of NBA players do not play as well as starters vs coming in off the bench.
Butler could also be feeling the affect of the loss of Billups. I haven’t paid that much attention but I would think that with Billups being replaced by Foye Clippers opponents have focused a bit more on Butler than before Billups went down. Just a guess.
.
Buddahfan - February 11, 2012
okay next game Foye, Mo and Butler won't be able to hit the broad side of a barn
the Buddahfanjinx!
BelgianClipper - February 11, 2012
Buddahfan - February 11, 2012
Please don't jinx anything, guys...
82-0 - February 11, 2012
indeed - stop with the arrogance before games like this
Lest we slip further and further into Lakers fans entitlement attitudes
banandy - February 11, 2012
haha oh come on now that's silly.
The Bobcats have only 3 wins this season. It’s not arrogant to say this Clippers team should win handily. Any by people saying so won’t somehow jinx the team. Even if this entire board were to not say anything to jinx this game, what about the other thousands of fans and spectators saying the same thing?
If they lose, it’s on them. Not because of anything some fans said.
dulciusXasperis - February 11, 2012
Cavs with no Kyrie Irving
Confidence is not the same as arrogance my friend. Let’s not be a hateable fanbase.
banandy - February 11, 2012
Any word on trying to fix the backup SF spot?
Maybe sign Sasha V aka Nadal? Al Thornton? Rasheed (Martin at the 3)?
KillaClip - February 11, 2012
I would be a tough call to get rid of Gomes
as he is our specialist for throwing in bounds passes out of bounds in key situations.
PV Mike - February 11, 2012
I knew it was going to be fail as soon as he went over to inbound
KillaClip - February 11, 2012
I think I can
inbound the ball better than Gomes in last night’s game.
Pats fan in CA - February 11, 2012
It wasn't really Gomes' fault
mroe that VDN couldn’t run a play to get anyone open. Look at those 2 plays. Who was open? Who would you have passed it to?
LJ Hann - February 11, 2012
clippers had more time outs, Gomes should have called another time out.
ThaFoX - February 11, 2012 via Android app
Rasheed Wallace would be nice
UC.Clipper - February 11, 2012
I'll take anything about now SF is our only weak spot off the bench and also our most fragile with Butler
I see when Bledsoe comes back we keep a better balance with Paul/Foye and Bled/Mo but the SF spot annoys me. We need to keep Butler rested to avoid higher injury risks and playing Griffin extended mins at 3 kills the point of him getting rest with KMart here
KillaClip - February 11, 2012
3-1 entering this game
Is what I expected for when I saw the team heading in to this game. Didn’t think it would have been after a Philly win. I do not take anything for granted and hope this team does not look past. Of our last four losses, three of them we should have won in my eyes. They have lost 13 games and some of those recent losses were of the ugly type. This could be a game they try to man up and eek out a win.
mustang6944 - February 11, 2012
Clippers moved to 19th in points allowed per after 76ers
At 96.1 per. I think tonight is another great shot. I don’t think that the Clippers can hold the Cats to 64 like the Bulls did, but under 80 is certainly possible. The key is to hit shots tonight and score around 100, if not more.
LJ Hann - February 11, 2012
original Reggie Williams
He was also picked before Reggie Miller. I wonder how his career worked out?
crimelaw - February 11, 2012
Reggie Miller
But come on, no one saw Reggie Miller being the star he became. He wasn’t that great at UCLA. I thought his sister was better when he was in college.
Steve Perrin - February 11, 2012
what about Dennis Hopson or Armon The Hammer Gilliam?
Unfair to ding the clips without mentioning the two previous picks. While you are at it, how about the rest of the league for passing on Pippen that year?
ganima - February 11, 2012 via iPhone app
Gilliam had a nice career
He was much better than Hopson or Williams.
Steve Perrin - February 11, 2012
R.I.P. Armon
PV Mike - February 12, 2012
just a thought
As the Rockets are still trying to get gasol for Martin and scola, don’t you think we could make this a three teams trade and send Mo to the fakers to get Martin?
I’m a bit reluctant to help the fakers, but Martin would fit very nicely in our current roster.
Plus we would have the double K-Mart combination
paris clips man - February 11, 2012
We would still lack perimeter bench scoring
Foye has proven to be inconsistent as a bench force and we still don’t know what Bledsoe can do until he returns and Gomes is Gomes.
KillaClip - February 11, 2012
I don't think it would be that big of a deal
With 4 players capable of scoring 20pts a game, even VDN should be able to manage to keep at least one of them in game everytime.
paris clips man - February 11, 2012
Although I love Kevin Martin
Ever since it came out last week he has plantar fasciitis he has been absolutely terrible and seen his minutes dramatically reduced.
MikeV7297 - February 11, 2012
Erik O where you at?
LJ Hann - February 11, 2012
Imagine if Ryan Gomes and Corey Maggette guard each other. World might explode.

Interesting
Jonee - February 11, 2012
From the clippers.com preview
it looks like the clippers will being wearing the LA stars uni as well.

Maggette
I remember seeing this one really rare line for him in as I recall a Bucks exhibition game. The Point numbers and FTM might be off one or two from what actually happened. Here is the line I recall.
Points 15
FGA ??
FGM 0
FTA – 16
FTM – 15
He also ironically fouled out of that game. LOL
Buddahfan - February 11, 2012
I looked it up. He played 15 minutes and scored 17 points. All on free throws. Had 5 fouls.
