This was not a pretty game. Far from it. I think you could probably count the offensive possessions that went as planned in the fourth quarter on one hand. And I'm talking about both teams combined. Even when a team got a basket, it was on a completely busted play -- as was the case with the game winner, a Chris Paul fall away over the defensive menace that is Andre Iguodala. But you know, if you're going to have a broken play, it's nice to have Chris Paul around -- I might have to start calling him Super Glue, because he fixes stuff that's broken. Like that final possession; like the Clippers offense; like the hearts of the citizens of Clips Nation.
The Los Angeles Clippers shot 39 percent from the field, 2 for 19 from deep ... and still managed to defeat the Philadelphia 76ers, 78-77. This was a game that will do nothing at all for the offensive numbers but great things for a team's defensive ratings -- not to mention their confidence. The Clippers will take the win ugly or not, against a good team on the road. They move to 3-1 on the current road trip, 6-5 on the road on the season, and 16-8 overall. Sure, it's too bad that they lost Wednesday in Cleveland, as they could be undefeated on this trip. But they'll take 3-1 on the trip.

The Clippers would like to play pretty basketball. They'd like to have room to roam in the half court, run pick and roll, dive to the rim for dunks, and spot up for threes. That's how they want to win. They want to win games 106 to 95 or something like that. But it's good to know that they can win ugly when they need to.
This was the Clippers worst offensive performance of the season. OK, second worst, but that first game in Utah was only a teensy bit worse, and it featured a lot of minutes from guys we would expect to be bad. This was the third time they've shot under 40 percent from the field and the second time they've been held under 80 points; 78 was a season low in points. It was by far their worst performance from beyond the arc, and 15 free throws is their third fewest trips to the line this season. So they couldn't make shots, they especially couldn't make threes, and they couldn't get to the line. That more or less sums up the primary ways to score points in basketball. There are other ways, but they involve special fiats from David Stern.
So what did the Clippers do right? First and foremost, they protected the ball. They tied a season low with seven turnovers, and limited Philly to seven points on those miscues. As I pointed out in the preview, the Sixers are not a great half court offensive team, and if you can limit the number of easy baskets they get, then they will struggle. Which leads me to the other thing the Clippers did well -- they played defense. From midway through the second quarter on, Philadelphia got almost nothing easy.
Credit Mo Williams for turning the game around for the Clippers -- and doing it while feeling sick as a dog. Three minutes into the second quarter, absolutely nothing was going right for LA, and they were in danger of getting blown out. Philadelphia had built up a 12 point lead at 33-21, and the Clippers simply could not make a shot. Williams scored the next 12 Clipper points himself, leading the team on a 12-4 run that made it a game again. Neither team led by more than seven the rest of the way, and the score was within two points at each of the last three breaks: 41-43 at half, 60-61 after three and 78-77 final. Mo eventually joined the rest of the Clippers in their collective shooting slump, scoring only two more points the rest of the game. But those 12 second quarter points were huge, as they gave the team a renewed sense of purpose.
Only the most ardent fan of defensive basketball could have appreciated the fourth quarter -- and even he might have cringed at the number of second chances allowed. The Clippers had more offensive rebounds in the fourth (6) than Philadelphia had made field goals (4) -- and the Clippers only made 8 field goals themselves. If Williams gets special kudos for his second quarter shooting, Reggie Evans deserves recognition for his fourth quarter hustle. Evans had three offensive rebounds and a steal in the quarter, and he also forced two other turnovers. It was an ugly quarter, perfect for one of the ugliest players in the league.
The addition of Kenyon Martin to the roster gives Vinny Del Negro some options he didn't have before. For a long stretch of the fourth, Griffin, Martin and Evans were on the floor together. Martin had the primary assignment of defending Iguodala and so was ostensibly the small forward, but the truth is that those three together provide a tremendous amount of defensive flexibility. All have the size to battle bigs, with enough quickness to do a decent job on most threes. The Clippers defense was incredibly active in the fourth, switching screens and rotating agressively to open shooters.
It's hard to now how much credit to give to the defenses in this game, versus how much blame to assign to inept offenses and just plain bad shooting. How many games feature a team that can't inbound the ball in a crucial situation? This one featured both a five second count against the Sixers, and a turnover by the Clippers with 20 seconds left that almost cost them the game. Amazingly, even when one of the teams scored down the stretch, it was ugly, ugly, ugly. Philly's final six points came from the line, and none of the possessions had much promise at the time of the foul. Meanwhile, the Clippers last two baskets each featured Blake Griffin digging the ball out of a scrum and somewhat luckily finding a teammate who made a shot.
But forget the ugly for a moment. If Williams and Evans get special commendations during the game, it's Chris Paul who is the hero of the night. For one thing, he was the only Clipper that actually had a good night shooting the ball -- 10 of 20 for 24 points. The game winner was as tough a shot as there is. The clock was running out, and Iguodala had him bottled up. He seemed to have to extend his arms, taking something other than his normal jump shot over the lunging Iggy and he stilled managed to drain it. As he walked back to the huddle with 3.2 seconds left and the Clippers up one, he was saying to his teammates "I got this."

Was listening on the radio
Brian Siemens went absolutely nuts on the Caron Butler foul call.
Michael White - February 10, 2012
Did he think it was a bad call?
yaggiefresh - February 10, 2012
I think (without any hint of hyperbole) he might have mentioned it to be the worst call he’d ever seen.
He was “speechless”
Michael White - February 10, 2012
Very tough call
Here’s the thing. The ball went off Williams, but Philly deserved the ball out of bounds because they played great defense on the play, and Butler did foul him. But it was a foul you usually wouldn’t call with 18 seconds left in a close game. It’s a situation where a few years back, the ref would just say “Philly ball” and Caron would complain and he’d say “Would you rather I had called the foul?” But with the replay rule, they can’t make those kinds of judgments as freely anymore. So it was a tough, tough call, but I don’t really have any problem with it.

clean call just bad pass

OT: jeremy lin is balling up the lakers...
27 points after 3 quarters….i guess he’s the real deal

lovinglosangeles - February 10, 2012
Well, a PG lighting up the Lakers isn't news
I’m still hesitant
UC.Clipper - February 10, 2012
Have faith in your countryman!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited for him. However, I won’t get TOO high on it yet. Trying to check myself of homerism? Dunno.

My man
If there was an Indian-American dude ballin in the NBA I’d be going bonkers, even if sat the bench!
yaggiefresh - February 10, 2012
He's definitely shown great play, even since his rookie year
Wondering how the league will adapt to him.
UC.Clipper - February 10, 2012
He's a smart cat
playing for the Knicks seems like a perfect fit
yaggiefresh - February 10, 2012
Worried he'll struggle against the Rondos and Westbrooks
Still, this kid is smart as hell and it seems like D’Antoni has just been missing a smart PG since he left Nash.
Erik O - February 11, 2012
I've heard reports a set of Indian 7ft twins... not sure how old they are though
shay - February 11, 2012
Bhullar brothers?
They’re 2 years apart (I believe). The older is 7’5 and the younger is 7’3. The older brother is enrolled at New Mexico State, but is ineligible to play until next season.
I wish them both the best, but I wasn’t impressed with what I saw of them. Hopefully they have developed more since I last saw footage of them.
Lawler 4ever - February 11, 2012
Rumor has it the Clippers are looking at a player
of a unique race their team. I believe it is called Causcasian? Their place of origin is usually the suburbs and coached by their father growing up. I heard they are very slow afoot and can’t jump but are pretty good shooters if they are given about 3 seconds to set their feet first. I know the Knicks currently have one on their team. I believe his name is Novak.

Those may be real PGs
(Unless you’re being sarcastic)

pts against DWill is solid but look at the tos,,,,,, went for like 8 i think

he’s scoring very efficiently
nauticazn25 - February 10, 2012

PV Mike - February 11, 2012
Eliminating Cookie from the rotation was.
UC.Clipper - February 10, 2012
It really depends on the match-up.
Thad is a tweener that plays almost exclusively at power forward. Brand is often used as a 6’8 center. Lavoy Allen is 6’9 and 225 playing center. Turner is not much of a perimeter threat.
In the match-ups that we can use 3 of Blake, Martin, DJ or Evans, we should use them together at times.

BelgianClipper - February 10, 2012
I'd like to see him trade our late second for a future 2nd to a bad team a la Kevin Pritchard.
We’re going to have a pick in the 50’s anyway. Aside from stashing away an international player, we could just go after undrafted rookies and have the same options available to us as we would if we kept our pick.
Lawler 4ever - February 11, 2012
perhaps we should stash some euros
seems farfetched to get a player that will contribute right away.
BelgianClipper - February 11, 2012
HUGE win for the team's psyche

Trading Amare
I wonder what can you get for Amare, with that contract i don’t think they can get much, they should have saved their amnesty to use it on him later.

JackduhSun - February 11, 2012
Saw that too
It’s cool though. GSW ended up with Kwame.
yaggiefresh - February 10, 2012
The dumbest thing they did was use the amnesty on Charlie Bell instead of Biedrins.
I’m almost certain Bell was expiring and Biedrins is horrible with 2 more seasons (not including this season) under contract. They could have easily made DJ an offer that we would have refused. They could have kept Lin too if they wanted.
Lawler 4ever - February 11, 2012
GSW is too hungry for a big move
they need to hoard assets and then make things happen. Now they went after Tyson Chandler, DJ and ended with Kwame. Not to speak about the rumor they were willing to trade for a DH rental…

BelgianClipper - February 10, 2012
I don’t think I’d call that VDN’s fault… Gomes, by all means, SHOULD have been able to inbound that ball.
2-ScoopIceCream - February 10, 2012

however, why the clippers ran 2 consecutive inbounds plays that could not get anyone open…
LJ Hann - February 10, 2012
Ah, point taken.
2-ScoopIceCream - February 10, 2012
It's just interesting how that inbound pass was "impossible"
The for the winning shot, the inbound was simple
UC.Clipper - February 10, 2012
it was 2 inbound passes that were impossible
cause we called a time out after the first couldn’t go in. bad drawing up play by VDN
chrisd - February 10, 2012
perhaps bad executing?
who knows?
BelgianClipper - February 10, 2012
Yup. Poor execution coming off timeouts, a huge area of opportunity.
I wonder what their conversion rate is coming off a timeout. VDN at fault.
Not surprisingly, whenever Chris Paul does his little number at the end of a shot clock, end of a quarter or end of a game, I feel good, I think every Clipper fan does.
I’m so glad Mo is a Clipper. Reggie Evans, he’s awesome. Props to Erik O, I peeped Martin’s defense on Iggy a few times down.
Need more ugly wins vs tough teams on the docket… this one on the road. So sweet.
dvnbtn - February 11, 2012
Different defensive mindset
Down one, the team is desperate for a turnover — overplaying every passing lane. You risk a foul and you risk a back door, but it paid off and they got the turnover.
Up one, you let them get the ball in. You don’t want to foul or be exposed. You don’t contest the inbound pass and then set your defense.

Lin's story in a nut shell:
Was an absolutely amazing high school player but no school would offer him an athletic scholarship, there are many allegations of the reasons for this being an inherent racism against Asians and Taiwanese in athletics. So he goes to Harvard (which doesn’t offer athletic scholarships). Plays amazingly at Harvard but gets overlooked and goes undrafted. Signs with warriors but never really gets a chance as the roster was stacked with guards. Gets waived and signs with Knicks but doesn’t get any time and is sent to D-League. Of course he finally does get his chance against the Nets (OT but the night before the Nets game he was sleeping on Landry Fields couch as he doesn’t have a place in New York).
With Victor Cruz, he did come out of nowhere but that happens all the time in football. A better comparison would Kurt Warner who literally was bagging groceries before he went to the CFL.

Thanks... and yeah that is the key...
things like this typically never happen in the NBA. Fairly common in other sports.
uclatroy - February 10, 2012
Yeah you have at least one out of nowhere player every year in the NFL

that it won’t paralyze a franchise for year to come…
BelgianClipper - February 10, 2012
Um, please no?
I don’t like Tebow. I like Lin.
UC.Clipper - February 10, 2012
At least Lin doesn't constantly mention God in every sentence...
UC.Clipper - February 10, 2012
Tebow is only a product of the Christian right
lovinglosangeles - February 10, 2012
he said he consider going into politics in the future
I’d laugh but seeing the republican candidates this year…
BelgianClipper - February 10, 2012
that's BS
Tebow led a pathetic team to the playoffs and won week after week when nobody could. Yes, religion had a part of his hype, but the man got the job done in the 4th quarter coming from behind when he was bad the first 3 quarters of every game. he won, christian right didn’t win.
chrisd - February 10, 2012
no it didn't but I'm not convinced he is the real thing
and the Broncos now have to ride out Tebow mania for better or worse.
BelgianClipper - February 10, 2012
i agree i don't think he's the real thing in the long run
but there’s no denying what he did in the 4th quarter for 6 or 7 games. yes the christian right may have brought the hype, but everybody was buying it cause he was bringing it.
chrisd - February 10, 2012
The hype is what I mean
lovinglosangeles - February 10, 2012
fine, but i think part of the hype is that the guy is not a great quarterback
but somehow found a way to win every time coming from behind. It will make for a great movie one day, even without the christian right (which will be in the movie).
chrisd - February 10, 2012
What's wrong with that ;-)
Tebow is just a committed Christian whose parents were missionaries to the Philippines. But that doesn’t mean that even an atheist shouldn’t root for him — it’s simply a feel-good story to see an underdog succeed. Same goes for Warner, also a committed Christian.
Lin is the same way actually.

did lin play enough games to be considered a rookie last year?
maybe he will win ROY this year
nauticazn25 - February 10, 2012
uhmmm... did you look at Irving's numbers?
Lin has to keep this up for the rest of the season to compete. Seems unlikely
BelgianClipper - February 10, 2012
Lin would probably outplay Irving. Lin plays more like a complete point guard.
tenkaistar - February 11, 2012
not buying it
not on 4 game sample. Plus Lin will be in the league for quite some time but Irving looks the real deal.
BelgianClipper - February 11, 2012
I don't think it works like that
as far as I know, your rookie season is the season in which you play your first game, also if it is only one game
Pawn - February 10, 2012
i think that only works in MLB
one game is enough in the NBA.
XXDC2XX - February 10, 2012
less than 10 or 8 games in the nba you can be a rookie the next year i believe
Dawool Huh - February 10, 2012
Lin played in more than one game his rookie season
that is all that is needed to no longer be considered a rookie.

next question,,,,,Does Dantoni put Melo and Stat back in the starting lineup when they heal up?
and mess up the team chemistry?
big0lbad - February 10, 2012
Stat should work brilliantly with Lin
pick and roll…
Melo is the one I’d worry about.
BelgianClipper - February 10, 2012
Amensty Melo. He's a ball stopper.
Xfactor26 - February 10, 2012

that’s not Melo’s game…
BelgianClipper - February 10, 2012
poor melo...
denver is doing better without him…and now the knicks are lol
nauticazn25 - February 10, 2012

Rakelds79 - February 10, 2012
Amare was doing fine before Melo came.
Xfactor26 - February 10, 2012
NY Press will roast Melo & Stat
the interesting thing for us is JR going to want to join NY more or Clippers more since right now we are the two most hyped talked about teams. Of course we are #3 in the west and a good team and the Knicks are #9 in the East and not in the playoffs.
chrisd - February 10, 2012
JR smith cant start in NY anymore
With Lin, Fields, Melo, Stat, and Tyson the Knicks lineup is balanced with Melo and Stat getting most shots, Lin the playmaker, Fields and Chandler the defenders. JR will just get in the way of Stat and Melo’s touches, he’d have to settle for 6th man. Would Olshey offer him a starting role?
cassellmania - February 10, 2012
the Nuggets were a lot more adapted to his needs
Billups, Smith, Keyon don’t really need a play maker to thrive. Amare and Chandler do.

I thought this blog was mainly about the Clippers and I guess it has changed to be about the Knicks……
Jerdog - February 10, 2012
relax, Mary
when the clipper game was over people switched to ESPN to watch the Knicks v Lakers 4th quarter and commented here. it was impressive and entertaining to watch the Lakers lose.
chrisd - February 10, 2012
I would love to cheer for Jeremy Lin but
he is increasing the (already great) possibility of J.R. Smith picking the Knicks over us
kikyexcel - February 10, 2012
even though they won 4 in a row they are still not in the playoff's if they started today.
plus would JR start over Landry Fields? Where is JR going to get his shots when Melo & STA come back? It’s gotta be the Clippers, we’re the best!
chrisd - February 10, 2012
(but i agree on the Knicks or Wolves, just trying to give some positive thinking).
chrisd - February 10, 2012
I'm not sure that Lin increases their chances at JR
JR will go either where he can get the most money or the most playing time. He can get the most PT with the clippers where he would likely start. He would get more money from the Knicks but he wouldn’t get as much PT as he would be behind Fields.
bestclipfan - February 10, 2012
more money and more playing time would say he'd go to the Timberwolves.
starting SG with more money than anyone to spend.
chrisd - February 10, 2012
more money besides Pacers who aren't after him.
chrisd - February 10, 2012
But remember, JR is looking to showcase for a big contract this summer
With the Clips, he would potentially start for a top seeded team that could make a deep playoff run, giving him exposure on a big stage. With the Knicks he’s looking at less PT and like the Wolves, NY doesnt look like a team poised to make a deep run, but in this crazy season, who knows. I read that Wolves arent interested in JR, and expect him to chose between Clips and NY.
cassellmania - February 11, 2012
bring it on, we'll take him!

Just Finished Watching The Replay
Reggie was a monster
Blake played really good
Mo had is moments
If I drafting from the pool of all current NBA players I would draft CP3 first, without batting an eye.
Buddahfan - February 10, 2012
Lebron has to be first, then CP3 and Howard are close.
XXDC2XX - February 10, 2012
Truthfully, the Knicks should trade Melo
Even if Lin regresses, the team is better off balanced. Wonder if they could trick the Lakers into giving them Gasol for him….
UC.Clipper - February 10, 2012 via mobile
why would the knicks want gasol
They have Amare and Chandler. They should try and move him for a PG unless Lin keeps this up.
XXDC2XX - February 10, 2012
Depth never hurt. True, another PG couldn’t hurt either, given it was their weak spit till now. But there’s no PG out there I would thunk of to come close remotely salary wise. I guess a desperate Nets team could use a consolation prize of Howard doesn’t go there, and let the Knicks a chance to add a proven all star PG. In the end I am just rambling random thoughts regarding how Melo isn’t necessary to the Knicks
UC.Clipper - February 10, 2012 via mobile
Lin's not going anywhere
He’s making less than $1 mill this year and could be locked up probably for cheap in the offseason. If he finishes off the yr averaging 15pt7ast, he will definitely be in NYK at least for next yr.
oasisman - February 10, 2012
i assume he means getting Gasol for Melo
XXDC2XX - February 10, 2012
cheap?
even if he plays half as good for the rest of the season, one or another bottom dweller is bound to throw him a very good contract. He is a PR dream and he can play a little it seems.

What is up with DJ?
Absolutely invisible out there.
dulciusXasperis - February 10, 2012
Admitedly his role was always limited
Foul trouble also hurt; he was forced to pick up a driving player who got past his defender
UC.Clipper - February 10, 2012 via mobile
Brother DJ stealing his money and not living up to the hype
wilriv21 - February 11, 2012
Brothers Kenyon and Reggie also stealing his minutes.
PV Mike - February 11, 2012
And we are a better team for it
DJ will be useful down the stretch. I love the fact that our frontcourt each bring their own skill set to the game. VDN can now adept to the opponent and who is hot each game. Before it was simple: Dj had to soak up plenty of minutes because neither Blake nor Reggie are effective shot blockers. Keyon brings that to the table.
Both Reggie and Keyon can defend on the perimeter if needed. I’m constantly amazed how stingy Reggie can play defense on the perimeter. I mean that’s basically a very physical 6’8" with his hands all over you.
BelgianClipper - February 11, 2012
also Philly has no center with Hawes out and Vucicej (sp?) not doing much.
DJ was pretty non-existent, last game too. We need hi so hopefully he picks it up, but our line-up was better without him last night cause we needed to try for offense and he has none.
chrisd - February 11, 2012
there will be other games where he wil excel
Okay the last 2 games weren’t good but he has been quite good before. But before he was playing by default. Now you can mix and match.
BelgianClipper - February 11, 2012
Isn't that all the more reason he should have had a better game?
He should have been much more productive.
dulciusXasperis - February 11, 2012
I think teams also pay more attention to DJ
I always had the feeling DJ was able to score thanks to the fact the opponent always focused on Griffin.
Plus Sixers didn’t drive to the hoop much so DJ shotblocking prowess was less useful.
BelgianClipper - February 11, 2012
I just expect better from him
He started off well enough this season. I thought the days of him disappearing in games was behind him.
dulciusXasperis - February 11, 2012
He only got 21 minutes or so
I blame VDN for not getting him involved early on. And then icing him by playing him sporaadically
LJ Hann - February 11, 2012
What a great defensive win
Gritty, signature type win. On the road, against the third best East team. As CP3 said after the game, critical post-Big Shot win. Confidence builder. Clearly they will do ok. The naywayers are nowhere to be found tonight.

Don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but ...
76ers made just one field goal from the 4 minute mark of the 3rd quarter to the 7 minute mark of the 4th quarter. That spanned 9 minutes. 76ers went 9 minutes and made one single field goal.

JackduhSun - February 10, 2012
Hey wait
something that wasn’t mentioned was…Clippers were playing in white today? On the Road??
JackduhSun - February 11, 2012
weird week
They played in white against Cleveland also on Wednesday. Then last night in Boston, the Celtics wore Green and the Lakers were in home yellow. Teams do it sometimes to let their home crowds see a new uni — but three straight days really had me confused. I began thinking the Grammys were over.
Steve Perrin - February 11, 2012
The real question is what happened to the road blue unis the clippers were supposed to debut
unless they are going to where them tomorrow or against Dallas.
bestclipfan - February 11, 2012
I think Mike Smith had it wrong when he said Clips would have blue unis on this trip
Per NBA rules, when a team updates their uniforms like the Clips did last year, they have to wait 2 years before adding a road alternate. Weird rule, but thats how it is. I’m sure we will see the road blues next season.
cassellmania - February 11, 2012
God I still dislike these uniforms..
I like the old Clipper cursive logo’s better…
Especially the alternate blues…
JackduhSun - February 11, 2012
Yeah I think the third uni that Mike was likely referring to
was the home whites. I think the clips are suppose to wear the stars uni in one the next two road games though.
bestclipfan - February 11, 2012
I went to a game last year...
..at Staples and they inexplicably worn their road reds.
saxmanager - February 11, 2012
Not to dig up old discussions
Hey so who was it that was saying I was insane for thinking Martin would ever play SF for certain stretches to guard certain players? Yeahhhhh that like totally happened, y’all.
Erik O - February 11, 2012
I've become so petty.
Look what you’ve done to me CN.
Erik O - February 11, 2012
he wasn't really playing SF, he was guarding a SF
anyway Keyon comes as advertised: a gritty veteran defender
BelgianClipper - February 11, 2012
I didn't say it but I thought it!
Jax - February 11, 2012
That was me. I gave you props, homie. Replied under Belgian Clipper's post way up there.
He showed good lateral movement against Iggy.
I’m happy either way. Like I said in other thread, his low block defense is where he maximizes his value. Guarding Iggy or wing players in the perimeter is a great bonus.
dvnbtn - February 11, 2012
CP for the clutch game winner
Shows that you can have deep athletic teams like Nuggets, Portland, 76ers, Utah, Rockets. . .but who on those teams can you trust in crunch time to hit a game winner? Tonights game was a grind it out slug fest that happens in the playoffs, and having Kenyon/Reggie as the bench grinders and CP as the go to guy, i feel good about this teams chances moving forward. Just need one more shooter/defender swingman and this team is ready to battle anyone in a playoff war.
cassellmania - February 11, 2012
This
Jax - February 11, 2012
+1
everyone likes these teams because they essentially try to beat the fact that you need a superstar to win titles and superstar are far and between in this league. But in the end you need a go to scorer that can elevate his game when needed. With teams like the Sixers or Nuggets it is hard to figure out who can take them to the promise land when the game is on the line.
BelgianClipper - February 11, 2012
You Can't Even Trust Lebron at Clutch Time
Kobe used to be the best clutch time player in the NBA but he has gotten old with lots and lots of minutes.
The two best clutch players in the NBA right now are CP3 and D, Rose both PGs
CP3 is what we were hoping BD would be and more.
If I wanted to win a game I would pick CP3 first on my team without batting an eye.
Some like Lebron but in Miami they prefer to put the ball in D-Wade’s hands to get the clutch basket at the end of games.
CP3 = MVP
Buddahfan - February 11, 2012
D Rose still has a way to go
he missed key FT’s in their game against Miami. CP3 is a much better clutch player right now then Rose.
bestclipfan - February 11, 2012
Still amazing that last 20 seconds....
the broken play, Griffin throwing the ball to Keyon on his back, Paul shooting over Iggy. And then the double team on Lou Williams…
BelgianClipper - February 11, 2012
Is anyone else happy that last play broke apart and it was CP3 with the shot rather than Blake who the play was drawn for apparently?
chrisd - February 11, 2012
well the problem is that the other team knows Paul is getting the ball
And Griffin can be damn near unstoppable if they get him into position. They are pushing Blake to get out of his comfort zone so he can improve. Otherwise he’ll just stay an extremely gifted physical beast without much skill. I like that plan and this is the time to assimilate new stuff into his repertoire.
BelgianClipper - February 11, 2012

Two semi-obvious thoughts
But I’ll share them anyway:
1) KMart >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SJones. This changes EVERYTHING about our front-court rotations/flexibility. I really think this move would’ve been enough if it weren’t for the Chauncey injury. But now the SG/SF hole has become a gaping chasm. Anyone out there still thinking Foye isn’t a big drop-off from Mr. Big Shot?
2) Gomes coming in cold off the bench to throw in the ball gave me a horrific Daniel Ewing flashback. VDN’s seemingly been doing a much better job juggling lineups of late, but that was a horribly stupid move IMO. Bringing in ice-cold players (particularly ones who kinda suck) in critical situations for some sort of perceived advantage backfires way too often.
boltsfan21 - February 11, 2012
No one rational would think the Clips are better off without Chauncey
Foye 4-14 for 10 points. That’s a terrible PPS. Clips will miss Chauncey’s ability to get to the free throw line, especially in close defensive-minded games where actual baskets are hard to come by (see Sixers last 6 points).
ClipperChuck - February 11, 2012
You would think
And yet plenty of Citizens were saying just that. Then again, about half the Citizenry also voted in a poll that they wouldn’t trade EJ for CP3 straight up if both had the same contract status, so I guess this isn’t all that surprising ;-)
boltsfan21 - February 11, 2012
hmmm
I don’t think anyone here ever said the Clippers were better off without Chauncey. I said that Chauncey is the one player of their top 6 the Clippers can most afford to be without and I stand by that.
You’re singling out Foye 4 for 14. Well he went 5 for 7 tonight.
Meanwhile, Billups had nights of 2-9, 1-8, 1-8, 1-9, 2-11 this season… so let’s not settle the debate based on one game, shall we?

boltsfan21 - February 13, 2012
Billups has some clunkers for sure
but majority of his shots were 3s and he gets to the free throw line hence his TS% is still above average. Foye will have an occasional good game here or there but these 4-14 type performances with 0 FTA are quite common.
