It's the official back to school/work week of the new year! Some of my co-workers who took extended vacations are back as well as most our schools are back in session. Here are some headlines (after the jump) to get you through the morning:

Reggie Evans could be the Los Angeles Clippers' key cog - ESPN Los Angeles
In his first game for the Clippers, Reggie Evans seems to be what they need.
Baron Davis enjoys renewed excitement in New York after bitter Clipper days - Sam Amick - SI.com
Baron Davis is nobody's savior. That much, Knicks fans, needs to be made clear right at the start.

BD says he was the "sacrificial lamb"
Interesting
Jax - January 9, 2012
That "fan" take is really a Lakers fan take
So blatantly obvious.

lovinglosangeles - January 9, 2012
The fan take may be biased...
But he speaks the truth. LA will always be a Laker town until the Clippers can win several championships. How many championship banners do the Lakers have? How about retired jerseys? The reality is that any team sharing a city with the Lakers (with the Celtics the only exception) will be second billing.
Rob Lo - January 9, 2012
i'm not even accusing him of bias per se...
but it is written from a Lakers point of view only. He has a section detailing the keys to a Lakers victory, but not for the Clippers?
banandy - January 9, 2012
Oh, I get what you mean.
Maybe he assumed that the average reader will be able to deduce that the Clippers’ keys to victory is to do the exact opposite…
Oh what am I saying.. average reader on Yahoo can’t even spell past the 5th grade level.
Rob Lo - January 9, 2012
yea, I didn't mind that section
talks more about Clippers stats, albeit, probably to point out their strengths and weaknesses for the Lakers to take advantage of.
It was a short article, so not much to take away from it, definitely far from a complete analysis, so yea, there was like one sentence about what the keys to the game are, but what do you expect from an article shorter than a lot of comments on here. I mean half the article was just the history of the franchises. I’m sure the 17 (or 16 nba) championships will really help the lakers take home a win on saturday.
osamu - January 9, 2012
Plus his analysis of the Clippers ...
… is that all they do is Lob and if LAL defends the Lob, LAC has nothing else. This is clearly someone who has not watched anything other than his Laker games.
Thretch - January 9, 2012
Miami is more of a measuring stick than the Lakers.
WaveOcean - January 9, 2012
Wow..
All of our games are so spaced out.. This feels like the longer season IMO.
ClipperBEAST - January 9, 2012
give it a few weeks and its going to be on
I’m a little worried but I like our depth so I’ll hope for the best.
gdl - January 9, 2012
You'll need the extra rest this week.
WaveOcean - January 9, 2012
Evans is a breath of fresh air off that bench
Though I still don’t think we should expect Cook’s minutes to go to zero. We don’t know VDN’s motive for playing Cook: is it because less minutes for Blake/DJ means lower odds of injury for Blake/DJ, is it because he’s continuing to push Trey Thompkins by playing someone in front of him, or does he honestly believe Cook’s an asset? It’s somewhat impossible to tell by watching, and there’s no way an active coach would ever give an honest answer on that.
If VDN, on truth serum, told you he was playing Cook because he’s trying to limit Blake’s exposure to potential injuries, would you really blame him? I realize we’re all punch-drunk on winning, but the team appears to be a lock to make the postseason whether Cook plays 8 minutes or 0 minutes; why not hedge your bets on Blake’s knee?
And as much as I dislike Cook’s game — even with that high 30% three-point percentage — he may actually be (relatively) useful on some potential playoff niche players like Matt Bonner, Troy Murphy, and Channing Frye.
Marver - January 9, 2012
Maybe Cook is to VDN what QRoss was to MDsr…his "blanket."
Lawler's Law - January 9, 2012
How can Cook be his blanket?
And I thought Mobley was the blanket. My memory must be going fast.
Jax - January 9, 2012
Think it was Ross
who else would have started Ross over Maggs and played Ross such significant playing time.
JackduhSun - January 9, 2012
Blanket was Mobley
Cat was consistent on both sides of the court, and until Clips got VladRad was our only true 3pt threat. He played tons of minutes. . .
Ross was the best perimeter defender, and i wonder where he is now? I guess he played himself out of the league with his lack of a jumper, but can’t be wose than Gomes.
Ross’ best moment was game 6 of conference semis, he made a flurry of jumpers to the tune of 20 something pts. I thought maybe he finally arrived as an offensive force. . .sigh
cassellmania - January 9, 2012
And caused us to lose out on the playoffs 06-07 as a result . . .
Jax - January 9, 2012
I'm trying my best to
forget the MDsr days in its entirety. QRoss fails to register with me.
Marver - January 9, 2012
LOL
From the linked ESPN article
Reggie, Reggie, Reggie
Buddahfan - January 9, 2012
LOL - BG just doens't want to get (black) balled.
Jax - January 9, 2012
Yea but Reggie is smart enough to know that there are only so many balls to go around and that Blake better get all the balls he wants if the Clippers are to win big.
Buddahfan - January 9, 2012
No one wants the balls more than Reggie!!
Jax - January 9, 2012
I Don't See Reggie Has A Ball Hog
However Kaman could have been another story. Hence Reggie just trying to share the wealth.
Buddahfan - January 9, 2012
"gargoyle" yea I can see that
blake is hilarious
flightofthegriffin - January 9, 2012
Gargoyles are guardians watching and protecting over things. This one is keeping an eye on Lob City.
Sfernald - January 9, 2012

Personally I Think Amick Misses The Point In His BD Article
Mainly because BD right now is soaking it up in the N.Y. spotlight as the player that will get the Knicks beyond the first round in the 2012 playoffs.
So BD loves all the positive attention he is getting.
However, once the Knicks fans actually get to see BD play and the N.Y. sports media along the fans starting bringing their wrath on BD as only N.Y. media and fans can BD will wish he was still playing for the Clippers.
Buddahfan - January 9, 2012
Yah they will eviscerate him - they will hold him accountable
Jax - January 9, 2012
Maybe this is a good time to “cut out” this discussion. LOL
Buddahfan - January 9, 2012
i hate rogues!
Worlock - January 9, 2012
when baron said he was the sacrificial lamb, he was really thinking about some tasty lamb burgers to eat , gain 20 pounds on and be injured for half a season because of.

baron and his excuses
everyone in l.a. wanted baron to succeed…however, he was never, ever in shape…thats a simple fact…the clips gave him the $$$$$$$$$$ and he never kept his end of the deal.
dellago - January 9, 2012
I for one was hoping he'd be successful
Jax - January 9, 2012
I blame Elton Brand.

Elton was 50% reason he even came
KillaClip - January 9, 2012 via mobile
yep
it’ll be curious what expectations NY has for Baron. Will they just let him play PG, and not have expectations? I don’t know. If they continue to struggle like they have recently (well they’ve won 2 straight, but I think expectations were higher than their current .500 record) I think i’ve heard multiple media outlets say “just wait for Baron to come in”. We’ll see what Shumpert brings to the position now that he’s back and has time to mature, but if they’re still reeling from the lack of production from the PG position, I could easily see there being a lot of pressure put on Baron when he returns, and pressure from NYK fans will be nothing like the pressure put on by us clipper fans.
Baron was always one of my favorite players, so you can’t describe how happy I was when he came. I’d say I was more excited then than I am now, if that’s possible. When MDSr. anoints it the “Baron Davis Era” you can’t help but have high expectations and the pressure squarely put on his shoulders. I just hope Baron realizes there are $65 million reasons why he was the “sacrificial lamb”. I still am hoping he has success in NY, and think he can really contribute a lot to that team. He’s still a good player, just not a the franchise changer we were hoping he’d be.
osamu - January 9, 2012
sounds like he's doing his best to downplay expectations
so that he won’t disappoint, again, but as you said, it’s doubtful the NY fans and especially media will give him that luxury.
His ego clearly craves the limelight but his heart can’t quite get there.
ganima - January 9, 2012
Remember this?...
They might get another chance!
Lawler's Law - January 9, 2012
Hell yes!
I was at that game!
dulciusXasperis - January 9, 2012
Wade will miss tomorrow's game with plantar fasciitis.
As such, it seems likely that he would miss Wednesday’s game as well. If so, we do have a decent chance of winning, in my opinion.
PaperClip - January 9, 2012
Call me crazy but I hope he plays
They are here only once and I always like to see the best against the best.
PV Mike - January 9, 2012
I want a win.
But it would be nice to play against a FULL Miami team instead of the big Two. Not to mention that it is a lose lose in the media’s eyes. If we win, well, we beat a handicapped Miami team, and if we lose, we just lost to a handicapped Miami team!
SurfinQ00 - January 9, 2012
If the Lakers beat us...
I know for a fact that I will be ridiculed by multiple people. I hope that we go 3-0 this week, but I would accept a 2-1 and even a 1-2 as long as we beat, and hopefully BLOW OUT the Lakers.
SurfinQ00 - January 9, 2012
yeah, actually I could care less about the other games...just want a big blowout for the Lakers. =)
banandy - January 9, 2012
We still have a game against POR
forget the Heat and Lakers, to me this is the test as it’s on the road and in an environment where we normally struggle.
ganima - January 9, 2012
An environment everybody struggles in.
SurfinQ00 - January 9, 2012
not portland
LJ Hann - January 10, 2012
A Gimme Game
now that we have new team leader CP3 and Chauncey all the Clips need to do is have the plane touch down in the Rose City and can chalk up a “W”. Not so much in the City of Angels vs Heat.
And then Saturday is another gimme.
wilriv21 - January 10, 2012
Portland in Portland is not cake walk
They are 6-2 this year, and always a good home team. The Lakers lost there earlier this year.
LJ Hann - January 10, 2012
Like taking candy from a baby
have the Lakers even had a road game this season?
